RSS/Atom Feeds for Forum

Post by Eckster » Sat Jan 24, 2015 7:36 am

I would love to be able to add the News section of the forums to my Feedly setup, but there doesn't appear to be any feeds set up for the forum, any way it could get added in?

Perhaps using this plugin? https://phpbbservices.com/smartfeed_wp/

EDIT: The forums appear to be using version 3.0.12, so Atom Feeds are built-in:
https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/en/3 ... tom-feeds/

They just need to be enabled, in fact, it appears that there is a News feed option built-in as well.

OK, I'll look into it.

EDIT: I think I enabled them. If it doesn't work, give me an error code or something.

Well, it appears to be working, I got it to work with Slick RSS Reader in Chrome using this link:
http://forums.cen64.com/feed.php?mode=news

All the newest news showed exactly how it should be, however, Feedly apparently doesn't like it, it's not showing up, it's being detected, but news items aren't. Not sure why that is. It doesn't require a login to view, so I'm not sure why Feedly is having issues.

I see that this isn't a new issue:
https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtop ... &t=2229161
http://www.domoticz.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4727

But neither of those forum posts seemed to have been responded to properly. It finds the feeds, but then removes them once it discovers they're "empty":

No idea. I've verified that the feeds are appearing (and user authentication works, too)... I'm guessing it's a PHPBB bug.

Well, I posted a few questions regarding the bug here:
http://webmasters.stackexchange.com/que ... phpbb-site
And here:
https://feedly.uservoice.com/forums/192 ... atom-feeds

But neither recieved an answer...
I finally got it to work with Feedly using this service:
http://createfeed.fivefilters.org/extra ... _contains=
EDIT: Nevermind, it broke today, looks like it updates every 3 hours or something and sends all old articles back into my feed :/

Thanks!

Might be worth trying again; made some recent backend changes.

Thanks for the notification. Site looks great:)
Now let's see whether the feed works.

Edit: By adding http://forums.cen64.com to feedly I get an empty feed. :( Might need to wait for a little while though.
Clicking the feed buttons on the forum takes me to feedly, but it empty and it cannot even be added as feed.

Well I don't know what has changed, but suddenly I got ~10 of the last posts in my RSS feed. (I had never removed the feed).

Let's see whether this one will get through too! :)

edit: yayy it works! :D

I haven't changed peanuts on the server (not even rebooted) between those two messages. So I would say the ball is in someone else's court.
