Kickstart campaing to support GlideN64 plugin

Post by Nacho » Fri Aug 08, 2014 2:04 pm

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/glid ... ics-plugin

well, what do you think about this? It's a new chapter of the fragmentation of N64 scene? A new opportunity? Could CEN64 use the research behind this new plugin?
Testing CEN64 on: Intel Core i5 520M 2.4 GHz. SSE2 SSE3 SSE4.1 SSE4.2 SSSE3, but no AVX. Ubuntu Linux

"System requirements are: graphics card with support of OpenGL 4.2 or better."

Welp ... This excludes every computer I have: 3.1, 3.0, 1.4, None

I'm not too sure what to think of this. On one hand, this could be very interesting for the development of graphics emulation. On the other, the plug-in is still targeted to work with only existing older emulators and all their possible limitations. Most aren't even actively developed anymore if I'm not mistaken.

Would GLideN64's code be relevant to cen64 once it's more completed if it ever went open source?

At the most, it would be useful only for the High-Level emulation. CEN64 has different approach (LLE and cycle-accurate), as it puts all efforts to emulate every N64 component, not its games, that would be only a side effect.

However, GlideN64 definitely has potential to become the best HLE plugin ever, that, except for those with custom ucode, can run every game, even the difficult ones, with little or no issues.

500$ to go! We're very close to reaching the goal!
