[LINUX] Wayland support

Post by Snowstorm64 » Sun Feb 02, 2014 1:22 pm

Is there any plan for CEN64 to support Wayland, the X11's successor? Because if I try to run CEN64 on Wayland, it doesn't start and instead it gives me a couple of errors:

Failed to open X display
Failed to initialize GLFW

Googling, it seems that the GLFW's developers aren't willing to implement Wayland support soon (it's planned for 3.2, that is very far), unfortunately. See the link: https://github.com/glfw/glfw/issues/106

I'm really looking at replacing the good ol' X server with Wayland soon, and it would be unfortunate if CEN64 doesn't run on Wayland for a long time.
OS: Debian GNU/Linux Jessie (8.0)

That's likely a Wayland's problem, not a CEN64 one.
....
Testing CEN64 on: Intel Core i5 520M 2.4 GHz. SSE2 SSE3 SSE4.1 SSE4.2 SSSE3, but no AVX. Ubuntu Linux

As someone who uses Linux 24/7, yes.

... Just probably not until it becomes more mainstream, as maintaining something in addition GLFW 2+3 is just a nuisance for the time being.

No, CEN64 has to use the upcoming GLFW version in order to implement Wayland support. Actually GLFW doesn't support Wayland, so it's not usable on Wayland-based desktops right now.
