Re: Performance results after testing CEN64

The Windows builds aren't properly optimised, meaning they'll give inconsistent results compared to the Linux builds.

Re: I'll just leave this here...

Because, in this case, one can start experimenting on his fork and then he can share his commits with others, without contributing to the parent project. This is useful, for example, for testing the code and, if all goes well, those commits will be sent to the parent project, for the contribution. ...

Re: I'll just leave this here...

All right, made a fork of cen64 with my code for 64DD: https://github.com/LuigiBlood/cen64 (About SHA1, those I put in a pastebin, it's only the User ROM area as it's the only comparable part between dumps.) I probably sound ignorant asking this, but why is the code forked instead of being added to...

Re: Any good ROM Hacks out there?

A vast majority of major Mario 64 rom hacks won't run on a real N64, and likely won't run on Cen64 either. I played Star Road, and it was okayish. There's a Banjo Kazooie new level hack that runs on a real N64 - http://micro-64.com/features/bkcustom.shtml The Goldfinger romhack for GoldenEye should ...

Done.
Bless your heart.

IMO, Cen64-QT should be the official front-end and be linked on the front page, but that's a whole other kettle of fish. You're all doing a wonderful job.

Re: Cen64 NTSC/PAL support.

I documented a safe routine that Hacktarux posted about, here: http://forums.cen64.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=10&p=1416&hilit=HACKTARUX#p1416 It requires a bit of programming knowledge, though, and access to an actual PAL console/cart. If someone dumped a PAL PIF, that would certainly allow people to...

Cen64 NTSC/PAL support.

The N64 PIF has PAL/NTSC hardcoded. US/JAP N64s can run each other's games, but PAL has a different PIF. This presents a bit of a problem. Currently, if you want to run Cen64, you dump the PIF from an N64 or "acquire" the PIF. It just so happens that all the not-so-legal PIFs floating around seem to...

Re: Original Doom ported to N64

I mentioned it in the new core thread, but 64Doom seems to work reasonably well in Cen64 now, which is quite impressive. 64D is fully MIPS-based, I believe. It draws pixels to the framebuffer and then renders them.

Counter Factor is a bad hack because people embraced it.

It goes without saying that any hack which screws with timings is going to cause problems somewhere along the line. But the Counter Factor hack is extremely bad because it became perceived as some sort of secret sauce which would magically make N64 games run better. Unwitting people took already sha...

Re: New core starting to come together!

Confirmed that. DK64 now boots on Linux. Flickering issues included. Regarding Expansion Pack, it may be a nice feature a 4/8MB switch. Some games would behave differently without expansion pack (say Perfect Dark) Hybrid Heaven, Resident Evil 2, and Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine raise reso...

Re: New core starting to come together!

It just dawned on me that Wonder Project J2's menu failing to initialise correctly is very much likely due to missing save support. Duke Nukem: Zero Hour freezes after starting a new game. The World is Not Enough does the same thing. They're both Eurocom games. I would test 40 Winks, but 40 Winks is...

Re: New core starting to come together!

I used a portable linux distro to test the linux build. Worked like a charm. (Which should make creating a "portable N64" fairly simple in the future.) Performance? Robot on Wheels into averaged about 25VIs on Windows and 30VIs on Linux. So that's a 5fps/20% boost on Linux. (SSE4.1 build) I've been ...

The dark lighting bug from Mario 64 also affects Rocket: Robot on Wheels. http://s21.postimg.org/qlxgk4rdz/rrow.png This is how it should look. http://s21.postimg.org/s4sup3xyf/rrow_angrylion_rdp_ogl_1_2.png 64Doom works. Re: New core starting to come together!

I'm very impressed by C64's progress. For the first time, the new version booted on my PC today. Thank you very much for taking the time to unbreak the Windows builds, MM. I'm gonna do some extensive testing, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that the homebrew Doom ports seem to run. I'm getting...

Re: New core/version 0.3

Here's my 5 cents regarding optimal controls. C = A X = B Z = Z WASD = C Buttons. Arrow Keys = Stick Q = Left Shoulder Button. E = Right Shoulder Button. Enter Key = START. D-Pad can be JIKL or something. D-pad is not used very often in N64 titles. This is the layout I use for all-keyboard gaming. I...
